Two screens are better than one...

While I am rarely one to take Walmart's Information seriously, it actually looks as though I may have to buy a Nintendo DS. The one pre-requisite I had for the DS in order for me to buy it was that it have either a true backlight or at least some sort of front light (ala the Gameboy Advance SP).

I consoled my poor VISA by telling it stories about how Nintendo would never actually put in a backlight right off the bat. They would release the DS without one and then a year later release a new and improved version containing the light. This is how I assured myself that I would not have to plunk down a solid 200 bones this November.

And so I did read the features listing on Walmart's site and lo there did appear the promise of a backlit monitor. I cannot decide for certain whether I am overwhelmed with delight or with dread. On one hand this system is obviously going to rock now and I will be able to actually see the screen. On the other hand, as I have been asking myself over and over as of late, how in the heck am I going to afford it??

One thing is for sure though. I am glad that Nintendo has finally come to their senses and released a portable I can truly play anywhere, regardless of light. I would hate to see a repeat of the original eye strainer that was my first, left to the wayside, Gameboy Advance...

My Poor VISA...

I know it has been a popular topic of late to complain about the incredible surge of freaking amazing games we are about to be receiving on this side of the ocean. I remember the old days when an RPG release was a very significant occasion. Nowadays, I have to pass over on games that would no doubt have enthralled me, I mean I have yet to even pick up a copy of Drakengard...

The problem is, I can't decide which is the more painful of the two issues. On one hand, hearing about all sorts of great RPGs being released on the other side of the world, knowing full well that they would never see the light of day here, was incredibly painful. On the other hand, knowing that great games are just sitting on store shelves, quite within my reach, but being unable to purchase them due to having to make 3 mortgage payments in one month is quite tortuous as well.

Anyway, the reason behind my complaints this morning is that there are two mighty fine RPGs being released at the end of this month. There is no way I will be able to buy both due to my upcoming marriage and the fact that I just splurged on two amazing RPGs at the beginning of this month (Phantom Brave and Star Ocean 3).

SMT Nocturne and Shadow Hearts 2 are both looking to be amazing games. I have always been a big fan of the SMT series, and am extremely happy to see them finally being brought to our neck of the world. On the other hand, my fiancee just finished the original Shadow Hearts (with me watching) and that has fueled the fires of both me and Dianne to play the sequel.

What to do then? Rob a bank? Get a paper route? Something has to be done! Oh well, I suppose I should not be complaining, next month will no doubt find me poised on yet another precipice, fighting with my VISA for possession of yet another game...

On yet another Pokeclone...

Well, despite the fact that I have a perfectly good version of Mario Golf: Advance Tour waiting for me on my gaming shelf, I continue to hack away at DemiKids: Light. I cannot say whether I am enjoying myself or not. On one hand, while I find the gameplay somewhat addictive (in a Pokemon sort of way) while I am playing, whenever I go to start up the game I always feel like I would rather be doing something else...

I think perhaps I am just getting somewhat burnt out on the whole "collect them all" breed of gaming. Sporting about 300 unique demons between 2 different versions, there is no way on earth I will collect all of them, nor do I really want to. I think I would have enjoyed this game (and quite frankly, many others) far more had they reduced that number to, say, 100 demons and then beefed up the story substantially.

Perhaps my gaming habits are simply maturing or maybe I am just getting older (that goes without saying!), but all this meat with very little substance is getting very stale, very quickly...

Just as good as I remember it. In fact, it's better!

Truly a force of argument for gaming as an art form, ICO is nothing short of astounding...

The beauty of this game cannot be put into words. That being said, the plot so far is somewhat lacking...

A very punny game starring the Dragon Quest series' lowest of the low beast - the Slime!

Now this is what next generation RPGs should look like. Too bad the story sucks.
