Super Deals @ Superstore |
![]() |
One of the regular rituals I employ (that the wife despises) when visiting our friendly (haha), neighborhood Superstore is to visit the games section. I figure that if I have to endure the trauma that is getting clobbered by at least 3 shopping carts per trip, I should at least get to visit the gaming section to see if there are any good deals.
I have found good deals before in the past (like Mega Man Command Mission for $30 or Sudeki for $15), but this time around I found something truly special. There were about 8 games going for $9.98. And not just any old games, decent games! Anyone in western Canada (Calgary specifically) should definitely head on down to their nearest Superstore to pick up these great games for an amazing price!
$9.98 Game the First: Dark Cloud 2
I love this game. While the first Dark Cloud was somewhat mediocre and a little boring, Dark Cloud 2 was pure gaming sweetness. Have some serious time to waste? Good, because Dark Cloud 2 will consume your life for a good 60+ hours. Filled to the brim with solid action-RPG goodness, a fun storyline and wacky mini-games and cool world building tools, you have a winner of a game. It would be a crime to not pick up this game for $9.98.
$9.98 Game the Second: Arc the Lad - Twilight of the Spirits
Arc the Lad - Twilight of the Spirits Review
I have played through every Arc the Lad game that has been released on this side of the ocean and can say without a doubt that this is the best one. This strategy RPG is the first game I have seen to try the free roaming, rather than grid like, battle engine and the only one I thought really did it right (sorry Phantom Brave). In any case, the story for this game is pretty decent, the graphics are nice and the intertwining plot will keep you interested as you move forward. Another steal at only $9.98.
$9.98 Game the Third: Wild ARMs 3
Journey back to the old west, throw in some magic and an insane plot to take over/destroy the world and you have Wild ARMs. The series continues to try new things but stays true to its puzzle meets RPG premise. I had a decent time with the third installment despite a few shortcomings. All in all though it is a unique romp through a nicely thought out world. More than worth its $9.98 price tag, you can't go wrong with this one.
$9.98 Game the Fourth: Ico
Those of you who are regular readers of my blog know that I have been hunting for this game for ages. The fact that it was only $9.98 was enough to convince the wife that we could afford to acquire it, mwahaha. Now I too can share in what has been critically acclaimed as a true work of art in the form of a game. No review for this one yet, but rest assured I will chime in with one once I have sampled my goods (obscure reference? Check!).
To Conclude
To Conclude, get your butt out there and pick up these games! Each one of them is an absolute gem that begs to be played. For only $40.00 CDN for the whole lot, you will have your entire summer covered for you. All this from what was looking like a boring trip to Superstore!

Moving on up... |
![]() |
Upstairs at the in-laws place I mean. My aplogies on the lack of updates as of late, last week and the week before it constitute what can only be referred to as insanity. As some of you may know, the wife and I have sold off our condo in the lofty persuit of buying a house. While we have our house (mostly) picked out, that did not change the fact that we had to vacate our condo to make room for the new owners by April the 29th. It wasn't easy...
The madness began the week before the week of the 29th when we were supposed to be packing so that we could be out on the weekend before the final week. Sadly, as writing a book while working 2 jobs will do to you, I was completely sapped for free time. Thankfully, my mom had made a trip out to help us pack and so her and Dianne went at the lofty task. I can, without an ounce of doubt, proclaim that there is no way we would have been packed in time to move had my mom not come down. Moms are good like that...
Anyway, everything culminated on the Friday before last weekend when we only had the evening to finish packing because we were moving the next day (U-Haul booked and everything). Sadly, what this really meant was that in order to finish we were going to have to pull an all nighter. Using a near lethal combination of Molson Kick (Beer + Caffeine = Holy Shit!) and Red Bull, we managed to pull it off and finish packing by Saturday morning. Then the real fun began...
Saturday morning saw a very tired me and Dianne join forces with my brother and a few friends (thanks Nick, Jeff, Xing and Nadene, couldn't have done it without you...) to move the entire condo out in one day. Interestingly enough, we had no trouble getting our U-Haul. There were people camped out in the U-Haul office, sleeping on boxes and stuff, waiting for the truck they had booked 2 months ago. Because we had booked online we were redirected to a shady looking Rent-a-Wreck to pick up our U-Haul which was there right on time. Note to everyone, if you plan on renting a U-Hual and don't enjoy sleeping on cardboard, book online...
While the move was indeed hectic and very straining on a very tired body, we pulled it off (including moving our 57" widescreen upstairs, Oy!) and were so tired afterwards that it took nearly 2 full days to recover.
Sadly, the whole ordeal cost me about a week of time that was supposed to be used to finish my last 3 chapters of my book. That leaves me with about 11 days to write 3 chapters; a daunting task at best considering I can only work on it part time. What does this mean? Well, I am pretty freaking tired, so my apologies if I don't update my blog as often as I would certainly like to.
A Congratulations!
A congratulations is most certainly in order for SuperJenn for winning the 1up blogger contest. Much as I would have loved to go to E3 this year, I am most certainly honored to have made the finalist list, especially considering my Canadian status. SuperJenn is a most worthy blogger however and she put together an amazing contest entry. I am very looking forward to reading her E3 blogs and know she will take care of that business with true style and professionalism.
Screens
Man oh man the new Phantasy Star Universe is looking sweet. I couldn't resist posting some screens, so here they are:

PokeJournal Week 3 |
![]() |
I realize that this isn't exactly week 3 of my Pokemon excursion, but due to how busy I have been lately and for the sake of coherence we will pretend that it is.
My foray into the world of Sapphire, storywise at least, seems to be nearing a conclusion. Without giving too much away, there have been some serious events unfolding with Team Magma that I have currently put to rest. For the last time? Perhaps, I am nearing the Elite Four with every step I take down Victory Road so who knows if an ambush is in order.
I currently hold 8 badges in my hand and am looking forward to taking on the Elite Four. None of the gym badges I have been working for lately have been anywhere near what I would call difficult thanks to a nicely diverse Pokemon team. The biggest challenge I have been having as of late is keeping Pokemon in my group that actually know the HM moves. With far more powerful attacks available, wasting a slot on an HM is starting to get tedious. Currently I have a Wailmer that's sole purpose in life is to Dive/Waterfall/Strength/Rock Smash. Poor thing, it is my total work horse.
My Pokemon team now seems prepared to take on any combination of attacks due to it's diverse move set. I have rock covered by Groudon, water and ice covered by my Pelipper, fire and fighting by my Blaziken, Steel by my Aggron, Electric by my Manectric and Flying by my Swellow. Overall, I rarely encounter an enemy my team can't take down with a super effective attack.
With this team in hand, I think that the Elite Four are in for some serious bruising but the Victory Road is currently slowing me up due to its maze-like wiles. When next you read my PokeJournal I expect that the Elite Four will have fallen before my mighty team and I will be well underway on my quest to collect them all!
Current Team
Pelipper
Pelipper is currently serving as my surfer and is brutally effective as a water/ice master. Its defense seems to be incredibly high and it can handle itself well in a battle.
Current Job: Water/Ice Gunner
Aggron
After finally evolving at level 42, Aggron has turned into the ultimate tank. Unless you come wielding fire or an earthquake, Aggron is going to tear your Pokemon to pieces. Straight on attacks bounce right off of Aggron and he is my Pokemon of choice for taking hits.
Current Job: Operation Pokemon Shield
Blaziken
Blaziken is still a very nice performer on my team. If I had any complaints it would be that its defense seems rather paltry. Its attacks though are nothing to sneeze at. Whether it is Fire Blast or Blaze Kick, Blaziken takes out Pokemon fast. Let's face it, the best defense is a solid offense...or something like that.
Current Job: Quick, Powerful Attacker
Manectric
Manectric has gone up in levels at the speed of light. Electric type Pokemon are incredibly useful around water type and flying type, both of which I have seen a lot of lately. Packing some super powerful attacks such as Thunder, Thunderbolt and Spark, Manectric fries everything in its path.
Current Job: Lightning Rod
Swellow
Swellow is one heck of a solid Pokemon. It is my backup whenever I need a finishing touch. Its combination of Fly and Secret Power, not to mention Aerial Ace, make for an assault that is not to be messed with. Due to its Fly ability it also doubles as my preferred method of transportation. A super useful Pokemon.
Current Job: Air Transportation
Groudon
Painfully acquired through a plot specific quest, Groudon is a force to be reckoned with. Packing incredible attack and defense capablities with moves like Slash, Fire Blast and Earthquake, Groudon doesn't take prisoners. The Pokemon with the one-hit knockouts, I have no doubt that Groudon will play a valuable role in taking on the Elite Four.
Current Job: Will.Kill.Pokemon.For.Fun
